The Future of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department is here. As of January 1, 2010, the CVFD entered into a contract with the City of Canandaigua to provide fire suppression and rescue services in certain areas of the Town of Canandaigua. This extended coverage area will tentatively be referred to as Box 500. This area is defined by the north-western boundary of the City of Canandaigua at Outhouse Rd. and Buffalo Street Ext. West to Hickox Rd and South along the fire-change with East Bloomfield and Bristol to our current line at Hickox Rd and State Rt. 21. And, the eastern boundary on West Lake Rd. (County Rd 16) South along the lakeshore from the city line to our former fire-change line at Tichenor Pt. Notable properties include Ferris Hills, Quail Summit, Crosswinds Church, Horizons Adult Home, and Zion Fellowship Church. In the coming months, the members of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting community outreach services and pre-plan exercises in this new area. As always, we welcome your questions and encourage your participation as we seek to better serve you.

Several pro-active measures to serve this new area are currently underway. Tanker/pumper 432 is now temporarily stationed at the Town of Canandaigua Highway Garage located between Routes 5 & 20 and Buffalo Street Extension. We have purchased a 100′ ladder/platform quint with a 2000gpm pump, designated Tower 481, and it will be in service by February 1st.

Additionally, Cheshire continues to add more members to our ranks. Between October and December of 2009, we added six Active Firefighter members, bringing our total Active Firefighter Membership to 30 volunteers. Every Active Firefighter is trained according to Ontario County & NYS standards, meeting OSHA & PESH mandates, NIMS certifications, and weekly in-house training ensuring that the services you receive comply with NFPA recommendations.
